The following instructions and recommendations are based on the data gathered through our 15+ years in the market. We do our best to list most brands and as many models as possible. We also try to make sure the information provided is accurate but please note, manufacturers can make running changes that we are not aware of until reported by a customer. We do our best to list those exceptions but keep in mind this is just a guide and the best way to troubleshoot an installation is to interact with a Technical Support Specialist either over the phone or via e-mail.
Ryobi trimmers come in many different styles and engine sizes.
We fit most models that come with a Bump & Feed head. A few models require a special adapter kit.
Ryobi electrics (corded) that come with a regular Bump & Feed head (threaded bump knob, not
auto-feed head) we recommend the following GrassGator models (see below for details).
For straight shaft models we recommend the following GrassGator models: 3600, 4600, 4620, 4680, 3630, 7800, 4750, 5600, 5620 or 8010.
For curved shaft trimmers we recommend the following GrassGator models: 3600, 4750, 5600 , 5620 or 8010.
For corded electric trimmers we recommend the following GrassGator models: 3600, 5600 , 5620 or 8010.
Most curved shaft and electric models follow the curved shaft instructions while straight shafts follow the straight shaft instructions.
Some straight shaft models like the 790R or 890R, have a "spool shaft": a hollow cylinder threaded on the inside designed to hold the original line head. If left on, the shaft would be too long to install a GrassGator head plus none of the bolts in the kit will fit. Usually this happens when you take the original head apart in pieces. If your Ryobi is a straight shaft and none of the bolts in the kit fit then put the original head back together, lock the shaft and unscrew the original head off as a complete unit. This will remove the spool shaft. If after unscrewing the original head off as a complete unit you still end up with a female shaft then follow the curved shaft instructions.
Some (not all) CS30, SS30, ES30 and CS26 require a special adapter kit. If your unit has tabs on the bottom of the spool and the spool housing wraps around the shaft then you'll need the adapter kit. You can request one free of charge by e-mail.
If the bump knob of your unit screws onto the shaft and the center shaft is not surrounded by the spool housing then you don't need the adapter.
We are sorry but we don't fit models 704R or 767R.
